Cory Miller
President / Powertrain Engineer
Brief info
I founded Strix Aero in 2017 to apply my powertrain engineering experience in aviation piston engines, starting with engineering consulting. One of my first projects was with C&P Aviation in Blaine, MN and AirCorps Aviation in Bemidji, MN where I helped them instrument their warbird engine prop test stand. Soon after, the plan was put in motion for Strix Aero to become the company to overhaul airworthy Allison 1710 Engines. For over 5 years now I've been working to learn everything about these amazing engines, with a focus on understanding the engineering decisions made by Allison Engine Company in the 1930s-40s. Using my powertrain engineering experience combined with the vast experience from my partners who have decades of experience working full time in the warbird restoration business, we've developed replacement parts, and overhaul methods that we believe will produce the most reliable and durable Allison 1710 engines ever built. We look forward to explaining the details to our future customers and warbird enthusiasts!
A brief summary of my background:
- Raised on a dairy farm in northern Minnesota. Always loved hard work, fixing things and making equipment last.
- Mechanical Engineering Degree from University of Minnesota and Principia College
- 16+ years of powertrain engineering experience. 7 years at Harley-Davidson, 3 Years at EPS (an aviation diesel engine startup), 6+ years building Strix Aero.
- At EPS I was the FAA certification lead for their electronic-controlled diesel engine, managing the certification of all engine parts and the Bosch control system.
- As an enthusiast of motorsports, aviation, automotive boating and outdoor adventure, I've always loved the hands-on maintenance and repair of engines and equipment.
